Braces Can Come in Different Forms

Dental alignment issues can have an impact on both the appearance and functionality of your child’s mouth. On a cosmetic level, misaligned teeth can leave them with an unappealing smile that affects their self-confidence. On a functional level, these orthodontic complications can lead to dental attrition issues and an increased chance of suffering dental fractures in their smile. To improve their smile’s appearance and prevent dental complications, Dr. Shabbir Adenwalla offers different variations and designs of braces.

Traditional braces use brackets that are cemented to the face of your teeth. They are connected by a strong metal wire. They often include other types of orthodontic hardware such as bands and spacers to further aid in the realignment process.

If your son or daughter has misgivings about the visible braces hardware, Dr. Shabbir Adenwalla can apply ceramic braces to the teeth. This is a special porcelain appliance that can be shaded to match their natural tooth enamel, making them less visible to the casual observer.

Clear, plastic aligners, such as Invisalign®, might be appropriate if the teeth in their smile need a minor amount of realignment. The clear, plastic aligners are custom shaped to match their teeth. At two week intervals they will switch to another set of aligners. Each set will be tuned to bring them one step closer to their ideal orthodontic alignment. As time goes by, the aligners will stretch the periodontal ligaments that anchor their teeth into the sockets.
